The program is designed to be 20 weeks long. That being said, we do understand that unforeseen circumstances may occur and have built in the ability to extend the program in some instances. See the Academic Catalog for details about extensions.

Is the Medical Assistant Program 100% online?

Skilltrade’s Medical Assistant Program can be taken as an online or hybrid option. The Medical Assistant Online Program is 100% online. As part of the online program, we strongly encourage you to obtain in-person experience (typically unpaid) at a local healthcare organization. This is an optional portion of the online program. Skilltrade’s partnerships with healthcare organizations across the U.S. allow us to assist students in finding these opportunities for real-world practice in a medical facility.

The Medical Assistant Hybrid Program features a mix of online learning and in-person training, as well as real-world practice through externships through our network of healthcare employers.

Will I be completing the course alone, or will I have interaction with instructors and classmates?

You’re never alone! Upon enrolling in the Medical Assistant Online Program, you’ll gain access to your Student Success Specialist, who will support you throughout the program via email and phone during normal operating hours. You will also have access to our online learning portal, where you can connect with other students in your cohort through guided reflection questions and discussion threads. Does your Medical Assistant Program include an externship experience?

For the Medical Assistant Online Program, we highly recommend participating in an optional externship to obtain real-world experience. However, this is not a requirement for the online program. Our Student Success Team is happy to assist you with finding an externship at a local healthcare facility, upon request.

For the Medical Assistant Hybrid Program, the externship portion of the program is built right into the curriculum and is a requirement for successful completion of the program.  Our Student Success Team will work closely with you to identify externship opportunities early on in the program to ensure you are able to complete this required component of the course.

How do I interact with instructors and classmates?

Upon enrollment, you will gain access to your Student Success Specialist, who will be available to support you throughout the program via email and phone during normal operating hours. You will also have access to an online portal where you can discuss class exercises and topics via weekly guided reflection questions.

What will I receive upon completion of the Medical Assistant Program?

Skilltrade issues certificates of completion to all students who successfully complete all required components of the program. As part of program requirements, students must take the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam during the final week of the program. Upon passing the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) exam, students will earn the CCMA credential and can download their official NHA Certification at that time.
